Industry Consultation Workshop Weaving Skills into Growth: Shaping a Future Ready Workforce

On 23 July 2026 AMHSSC brought together industry, government (MSDE), NSDC, exporters, training partners and academia to set a demand led skilling agenda for the Delhi NCR apparel cluster. The one day programme included the release of AMHSSC’s Manpower Skill Gap Study, launch of the AMHSSC Job Portal, presentations on NAPS and NSDC initiatives, and two panel discussions that addressed workforce availability, high attrition, widening skill gaps and upskilling priorities.

Speakers highlighted the scale and urgency of the challenge: India’s apparel workforce must expand and transform to meet growing domestic and export opportunities. Ms. Manisha Sensarma, Senior Economic Adviser, MSDE, said, “The future of India’s workforce depends on stronger partnerships between government and industry.” Shri Premal Udani, Chairman, AMHSSC, added, “Our Skill Gap Study and consultations will help align skilling efforts with industry needs and ensure a steady pipeline of job ready talent.”, and Shri Ashish Srivastava, CEO, AMHSSC, noted that new trade opportunities make industry aligned skilling essential for export competitiveness.

The workshop concluded with clear, actionable priorities: scale NAPS apprenticeships and  align curricula with shop floor needs through regular skill gap assessment; improve retention via better workplace practices, line management and career pathways; pair technology adoption (automation, CAD, digital tools) with targeted reskilling and multiskilling; and deepen industry–government–academia partnerships for scalable workforce development. AMHSSC will coordinate follow up actions to translate these recommendations into implementation.
